Chiropractic Care for Colic
How can chiropractors help with colic?
At Well Spine, we believe colic is not a diagnosis, but rather a symptom of another problem going on. We provide care for babies experiencing colic symptoms by addressing potential musculoskeletal issues, gut disturbances, environmental triggers, or nervous system dysregulation that contribute to the discomfort.
Our providers are extensively trained in pediatric care allowing us to gently examine your baby's spine and nervous system for any tension. Through incredibly gentle and safe adjustments, we relieve the potential causes of your baby's discomfort.
Chiropractic care for colic is non-invasive, focusing on promoting the body's natural healing abilities. We are also fortunate to have a list of other amazing providers in the area we refer to for collaborative and comprehensive care to make sure we address all parts of your baby’s well-being.
How can I tell if my baby has colic?
The Mayo Clinic defines colic following the 3-3-3 rule: crying lasting for three or more hours a day, three or more days a week, for three or more weeks. However, more recently the definition has become broader. The crying/fussiness occurs may sound more like a scream, tends to have predictable timing, occurs beyond basic needs like being hungry or needing a diaper change, and baby is otherwise growing and gaining weight.
How can I ease my baby’s colic?
For many babies, crying is their only way to tell us they are feeling uncomfortable. It is important to work with a professional during this time (such as chiro, IBCLC, PT, OT, craniosacral, etc.), but contributing factors to consider are GI pain, allergens, feeding issues, body tightness, birth tension, oral restrictions/ties, reflux/silent reflux, and more. Addressing these problems can make a world of difference for your baby.
